This is Corbin and Felicia. In spite of senior pressures and getting ready for the musical, "The WIZ" at Douglas County High School, Felicia has been dedicated to working with Corbin. She has done a great job. When Corbin first arrived, no one could get near him, he spooked at everything, and he bolted when moving from point A to B. Even in bad weather Felicia came after school to work with him. He now comes up to people and can be led. Next we will work on feet so he can get his hooves trimmed. He has come a long way and he is so joyful to be able to run and play at liberty with the others.

Ashlee, a senior from Legend, also helped to get Corbin used to being handled.

On a wonderful day in January that felt like Spring, we had a great turn out of volunteers. The Douglas County High School crew took time out from preparing for The Wiz, and all of the volunteers were just wonderful! Hopefully Spring is on its way!

Corbin's First Day out

Corbin is a coming two year old colt. He was one of the ones rescued from Crested Butte from the heard that was bound for slaughter in Mexico. Today Teri came and helped get him wormed. Dr. Rice had checked his manure and discovered he had intestinal "friends". Corbin loved being out and about. He has a beautiful trot --head held high and tail streaming behind like a flag. He spent a good deal of time racing around with Toby while Dealer and Goldie looked on from an adjacent pasture.

Angry birds

Here at the Edwards Foundation the wild birds maraud into the barn and eat at least $100 worth of chicken feed each month. The volunteers hung left over Christmas Tinsel in the stall doorways. The birds send a scout to investigate while the rest of the flock sat on surrounding telephone wires. When they did not get the 'all clear' from the scout, they became very angry and swarmed down into the tree in our backyard to protest. They were angry birds. Hopefully we'll save $100 this month!

Brownie Troop #3831 visits

Leaders Heather and Francie brought the Brownies from Troop #3831 for a visit and to help with feeding. Molly greets them.

Got help with feeding. Many girls went home with extra hay on their coats and in their hair.

Lamborgini says "Thanks for the hand feeding".

Goats came to help too.

Everyone had a great time even though there was lots of mud due to the snow melt. Two girls took home samples of the mud when they slid in it!

Everyone had a great smile when they met Lovie the little dog that will need knee surgery.

Bucky arrives at Edwards

This is Bucky, a pygmy goat, that lost his companion goat. He was looking for friendship in all the wrong places and kept getting out of his pasture and running with the deer. This was not safe for him, so his owners, Cade and Dylan brought him here where he will have friends his size and not be so anxious to roam.

Dan and Christian, wonderful volunteers agreed to stay to help welcome Bucky. While waiting for the new arrival Christian chilled with Fudgie.

This is Caleb and he is not really lying down. This blogger just doesn't know how to rotate a picture. Caleb is on the student council at Pine Lane Elementary. When he learned about the horse Dealer who needed eye surgery for squamous cell carcinoma, he decided to work with his school to help raise funds for us. Pine Lane had a night out at Chick-Fill-A and dedicated the money from the spinning wheel to our foundation. There was a great turn out! The PTO moms helped welcome, serve and clean tables. Even the principal was there to greet all. What a great night and we were honored they would help out the Edwards Foundation. Thank You to all who help to make this night so successful.

Dover's Saddlery's Gifts

2011 was a good year for Dover's Saddlery because they opened a Store in Parker. It was also a good year because Mona organized a giving Tree. It was also a good year because our volunteer Diane put requests for supplies for us on the tree. It was also a good thing for us because we got many needed supplies. Lovie needs a home and knee surgery

This is Lovie. She was born 7/18/2007. She has had her Rabies and Distemper / Parvo shots. Dr. Rice did her spay yesterday and she is making a fine recovery. In her evaluation for surgery it was discovered she has a "blown" knee on left hind leg. This is a very expensive surgery and we are asking for help in getting fund raising ideas for this. We are also asking help from her previous owner LaDean. Look at past blogs to see that we were able to place 8/9 of these dear little dogs. We hope to get some kind donations for this little girl's operation.

Big Bird --T REX

They say that the dinosaurs were the ancestors to our birds. T-Rex was a very big bird. Thanks to The Denver Museum of Nature and Science and Platt Park Art Reach, Diane, the Edwards Foundation's fowl director was able to take a break from her volunteering time to safely lead Carolann and Lynda on a tour and exhibit of this REALLY big prototype!

Sad News about Tom

Lynda,
I am devastated by the news about Tom; still not quite believing what happened.
Tom was truly one of the sweetest horses I've ever encountered and I guess God thinks so too and wanted him in heaven.
Trying to take some solace in the knowledge that at least sweet Tom had a few months to experience the love and kindness he deserved.

Dr. Rice floats Dealer's teeth

Due to a previous injury, Dealer has a tooth growing on the roof of his mouth. This means Dr. Rice must visit every six months to remove the hooks that develop on other teeth due to uneven wearing caused by the displaced tooth. Dr. Rice will also be monitoring Dealer's eye. He had surgery to remove cancerous growth and will need monitoring for signs of regrowth.

Zuma's Rescue Ranch Tour and Tea

Wonderful day for several of our volunteers who had high tea at Zuma's Rescue ranch. Diane, Roxanne, Lynda, Teri, Ashlee and Jessica enjoy the view from the great house after being served tea and scones.

Christmas Nativity Scene --Peace on Earth

Good tidings to all. Our Christmas tradition has begun. A big thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped to make this possible. Thanks to Chris for great ideas and sense of peace and goodwill towards all.

The deer helped to remind us that we need to remember the true meaning of the season and to keep our decorations as simple and as natural as possible

Diane used her fine art skills to create an intricate painting of Joseph and Mary. Roxanne wrapped the baby in swaddling and laid him in a true manger made by Roy. Emily arranged the straw for the floor. Austin anchored the star of Bethlehem so it could be seen from afar. And Dan delayed his trip to Texas to bring around a natural wood camel, cow and sheep.
Cheri painted the season's theme of Peace on Earth and Goodwill to men.
We finished Saturday and we were glad for a break in the weather. Alex, Roxanne's rescued greyhound inspected our work and gave his approval.
Oh Peaceful night!!!!! Away in a Manger. It Came Upon A Midnight Clear. Joy to the World!
Thanks to all and to all a good night. We hope local groups will visit and maybe tell the story that gives the true meaning to this season.

Mountain Ridge Middle School NJHS Event Organized by Christian

National Junior Honor Society members from Mountain Ridge Middle School helped paint the new shed in the front pasture and feed all the animals. They were such a big help! We thank Christian for organizing this wonderful event. It was so cold that they all came in for hot cocoa and tea while we passed around coco-deux, the Edwards Mascot.

Yea! Another good day for the little dogs. Jada Faith went home with Allison and her husband. They have a 13 year old daughter whose dog had passed away a while age. Jada will be her surprise and a welcomed companion.Jolie picked Cacahuete' to go home with her as both a companion to her dog and a bed warmer for her son. Another win-win.

Chihuahua marathon.

We got a request from a lovely lady in Pueblo who had seen the article about us in the Denver Post "Colorado Kids" section November 22nd. She had rescued 12 Chihuahua mix dogs and needed to place them before the animal control took them to the pound. LaDean was afraid they would be "adopted" for bait dogs. Some people throw small dogs to pit bulls to create a fighting frenzy. OMG!!!!!

She and her daughter brought 9 of these dogs to us and they were welcomed into loving forever homes.

Knieshia took Butterscotch and Cocoa to be part of their family.

Tom under saddle!

Tom came from Crested Butte. He was one of the 50 starved horses bound for the slaughter in Mexico. We choose him for his beautiful mind and his crooked leg.He is so gentle that our volunteers were able to put a saddle on him and lead him around with only sweet talk! Sam the cat has forever home!!!

Sammie, the black and white tuxedo cat was adopted to a very wonderful

home on Saturday, November 19th 2011. He now lives with Jill and her two kids. Thank you Jill for giving Sammie a home. Her previous owner has Alzheimer's and had to move into assisted living and could no longer care for him. I know she deeply appreciates that he now has a nice safe

home. Sammie is so gentle and loving, in January 2012 he will be 5 years old. He loves other cats and dogs and loves to be brushed and is very talkative. He is a gentle old soul. We love him. Thanks again.

We have some sad news

Monday we made a hard decision. When Diane came to feed she found that Honey had not eaten her dinner. This was the fourth time in a month that Honey had colic. She is such a stoic old girl that unlike most horses with colic who paw the ground, bite at their sides, sweat, and roll on the ground in pain, Honey just quits eating. After a consult with our vet Doctor Lee Mueller and my daughter Teri it was decided that the kindest thing to do would be to euthanize Honey. She went gently on the trees on a beautiful day.

Steve and awesome crew set shelter posts

If you need a job done by a great crew, there is none better than Steve and his awesome kids. They volunteered to set the posts for our shelter for the animals from the elements. Several crews had tried to dig in our cement-liker ground to set the 5 poles 2 feet deep. Neither pick axes, post-hole-diggers nor dynomite could break the ground. Then Steve arrived with his auger, bobcat and crew of the fantastic four to get the holes dug.

Poles are set, leveled and cement mixed and tamped in.

Everyone worked to measure, dig, mix, haul cement. What energy!

What a great crew: Kaelin, Meghan, Hunter, and Hayden.

Steve's crew even had enough energy to help feed when the post work was done. We thank these wonderful volunteers for their hard work and expertise. If you need anything done quickly and correctly call Edwards for Steve's number. He works a 100 hour week and still makes time to volunteer!

Ashlee Dog whisperer "talks" to Sam

Ashlee is a great long time volunteer, and is now a senior at Legend High School, and has taken on the project of training our “wild child” Sam. A mix puppy we got from the Denver Dumb Friends League. In the past animal healers Shelly and Karen have worked with him to get him grounded and in the present. Ashlee is working to get Sam to use a kennel as a place of quite safety. He was very afraid to even go near the kennel. Ashlee took the kennel apart and got him to sit in it. Sam trusts her very much, and hopefully he will be secure and confident of his safety.

CFC Campaign day at Federal Center

We all had such a great time at the Denver Federal Center when we got to participate in the annual Combined Federal Campaign information fair. There were 165 non-profit organizations presenting their information to more than 300 representatives from federal offices. Diane and Coco-au-deux were real crowd pleasers. We think Coco was the most photographed participant.

Jillian did such a good job multi tasking----passing our literature with our CFC number, monitoring the the goats, and giving all her beautiful smile!

Kirstin, Dawson, Caleb, Jillian, Diane, and Lynda all went early to get our table set up and pick a nice spot under a shade tree.

We passed out a lot of fliers and pencils and talked to many, many people.

Tomichi gets first hoof trim

Update on Rocky the adopted colt

Do you remember The little foal in intensive care that we named Tyson because he was such a fighter? He was adopted by a young lady named Bailey who quickly changed Tyson's name to Rocky in honor of Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Then Rocky fractured his back leg and needed surgery at CSU. Well---take a look at him now. He is growing up and Bailey does such a good job with his ground work. He loves her and lets her examine his teeth. And where his leg was fractured there appeared a heart. Symbol of his great heart and all the love he is receiving!

Tominichi out of quarrentine and at Edwards Animals

Hopefully he will not miss his little sister Talia who has been adopted and will remain at Terolyn. Tonight was Tom's first night in a barn and he did not hesitate when he saw his food in his stall. Dealer's Eye Surgery at The Eye Clinic

Last week Dr. Dale Rice checked on what Lynda thought was a sty in Dealer's eye. Not so! Probably squamous cell carcinoma and it needed immediate surgery. Dr. Rice arranged for Dealer to go to The Eye Clinic in Wheat Ridge where Dr. Todd Hammond, a veterinary Ophthalmologist, agreed to perform the surgery. Teri Allen from Terolyn Farms arrived at 9 am today with her big trailer for a first class transport for Dealer. We arrived at the surgery center and were greeted by Dr. Hammond and his tech Maureen. Dealer's eye was examined and he was sedated. The medicine to relax him also caused him to be very sensitive to sound so hence the cotton in his ears.

Dr. Rice and his tech Kim arrived to offer assistance. First Dr. Hammond cut out most of the tumor from the lower eyelid. Then he used cryo-surgery to freeze what we hope were the remaining cancer cells. After the surgery, Teri walked Dealer around to get him ready for the trip back to Terolyn. It was decided he would recuperate there as he needs medication for pain, swelling and eye ointment three times a day. He also needs to wear a face mask to protect his eye from sun and flies. He will need to wear a mask like sun glasses always in the sun as his eyes lack pigmetation around the eye. In the future when his eye heals he will need to get tattooed eye liner to prevent further sun damage. Hopefully we caught this in time. Both Dr. Hammond and Dr. Rice are optimistic. How something so small could become so serious so soon. Word to wise--- Pale faced horses need to wear sun protection over their eyes in this bright Colorado sun. Thank you to Dr Hammond and his staff at the Eye Clinic and to Dr. Rice for arranging this surgery. Thank you to Teri Allen for royal transportation and healing care at Terolyn!!!!!! Hopefully Dealer will return this weekend.

Rescue horses week 3

Starting into week 3 on quarantine for the five rescued horses. We thank all of the volunteers who have donated so much time to their care and giving them TLC. Here Cheryl and Pam give TLC after work. They stayed till dark. Tom and Dex are doing very well. Dex has all his weight on his injured foot. Each horse now has their own stall and run. They get very serious about their feed. Kara makes Talia's mane silky. We can hardly wait to get them home. Also thank you to all who have donated money to their care and feeding. Please come spend some time with these very grateful horses.

Rescue Day Two

Day two at Terolyn. The two boys Tom and Dex are greeting us. Dex has had his injured foot treated by Doctor Dale Rice. He is trying to put weight on it. All have been brushed and brushes disinfected after each use to prevent spread of ringworm and they have learned that treats are GREAT! The paint filly Talia gets her coat checked. Doc Rice has recommended special medicines for sores and ringworm. All have had 1/2 dose of wormer with second dose in a week. All are getting settled. All are haltered. The two year olds lead. They do love the coat massage and all the attention. The trailer has been repaired and is back at Terolyn. We need to get Thank Yous out to all who helped. We would love to have help with our blog to keep everyone updated on their progress.

Rescue horses safe at Terolyn

This filly will be named Talia. She is bonded to Tominichi (I will check spelling later. It is a mountain in Crested Butte. He is a two year old paint gelding. His nick name will be Tom. Talia and Tom will be the special project of the foundation.

The buckskin gelding is Dex. He is lame from a leg injury. The little black filly with a star is Izzy. And her friend filly may be called Promise. Terolyn will give special care to Dex and Izzy. Stacy will name and care for Promise. They will be in quarantine for two weeks. They love their food and are learning about treats. We could use extra donations for special medicines, vet care and feed.

We got home from Crested Butte with our precious cargo of five rescued horses at 10 PM. The story of our rescue trip was filled with many guardian angels. Wheel bearings went out in Pine Junction. It took a half dozen people to get coordination to transfer to another trailer for transport into Denver. Thank you Kerry and Tom. Also the truck drivers. also the storage owner, also Sandy and her husband for wheel repair and also the numerous offers of help. We are all tired and almost seeing double, That is why several photos are double.

Crested Butte - Horse Rescue

A crew from here, Teri, Stacy, Lisa, Bailey spent a day traveling to Crested Butte to pick out and pick up 5 horses rescued by Safe Harbor Rescue in Crested Butte. We got back to Terolyn Farms about 10 pm with all safe and sound. Going out this morning to meet the vet Dr. Rice. More later.

Wonderful day for hay

Dana and Peggy made a very generous donation of a trailer stacked to the brim with beautiful, beautiful hay!

Our volunteers showed up in force to help unload and stack. We had Paul, and his daughter Lindsey who really worked hard. Dom showed up to do football exercises by lifting two bales of hay at once! Rob, Diane, Ryan and Jessica came full of energy to help, and Ryan used his rock climbing skills to get the hay to the back. The Smith family; David,Zach,Jacob, Alec, and Christian came in force with their own gloves to move mountains of hay. We will miss Zach who has gone away to Colorado College to rest up after moving all that hay! Elizabeth came back from Paris to help with the hay. Madison was part of the wheel barrow line collecting broken bales. Ashlee took time from her busy senior year to help. All the animals say a big thank you to Dana and Peggy! They are soooo happy to have their winter feed under cover.

Our hen turkey was sooooo lonely. Lynda, Diane, and Jessica went to an animal swap in Kiowa and found a perfect friend for our turkey. We named the tom Timber and the Hen Toni. We are learning about Heritage breeds and think Timber is a Beltsville variety created in Maryland. We had to look for a long time to find a turkey that was not double breasted as we wanted a friend turkey not a dinner.

Katrina is a 10 year old who had a serious knee injury. This injury required her to be off her feet prior to and after surgery. To keep from getting bored she checked out our rescue on the web and decided to do fundraisers to help our animals. This is our 71 year old manure spreader. We were so busy caring for our rescued animals that we neglected this important equipment. This is a International Harvester Farmall. Only one person had the knowledge to repair it

He left simple instructions for the care and maintenance of this old workhorse.

I had never heard of a zerk. This machine has 12!

Some zerks are easy to find.

Some are hidden and hard to reach.

Even the pull-truck dash has instructions.

2nd Annual Benefit Sale Great Success!!!!!!!!

For the second year in a row Lisa was our great volunteer in charge of a charity benefit sale. This is our only fundraiser. Lisa and Chris worked countless hours in organizing, picking up, cleaning, and sorting to make this such a success. they were helped by many wonderful volunteers who did everything from gardening to making the property presentable to a wonderful album showing our foundation's progress last year.
All volunteers were able to cancel their gym membership for the weekend as there were plenty of lifting opportunities
Andrew does some basic lifts while Kevin Supervises.

Volunteers arrived at 05:30 am to start displaying items.

Items were arranged by categories--Everything from A-Z could be found.

Even famous figures directed traffic our way!

John and Dick even took time from their busy schedule to help out.

At the end of the day we all were still standing!!!!! A good time was had by all and funds were raised to support our rescued animals. The unsold items will be donated to Vietnam Veterans of America. Thanks to all who contributed items for our sale. Thanks to all volunteers who gave so generously of their time and talents.

Judy and her husband are our llama trimming PRO team. This year they also brought a work team to help. Many wonderful volunteers were also on hand. What a TEAM!!!!! Painters painted.

Judy sheared and clipped and gave immunizations, and gave health exams, and trimmed toes. WHEW!

It took a whole crew just to keep up with Judy.

Pat brought in a pro sheep shearer Lou. Lamborgini was the best behaved sheep of the season. He was glad to be shorn of his heavy coat. Pat donated the fees for his summer makeover and his shots. We all say Thank You!

Hay Day

Last Saturday was "Hay Day" at the farm. With the help of many volunteers, and one determined goat (the rather bossy Pancake), 280 bales of fresh hay were off-loaded for the animals to enjoy.

How many bales of hay? 280 to be exact.

Pancake offers to unload the hay one mouthful at a time, but still managed to organize the volunteers.

Girl Scout Troop 1045 Comes To Visit

The Edwards Foundation was so happy to have the girl scout group 1045 come and see the animals. They had a great time brushing, feeding and walking them around. Not only were the girl scouts happy the animals were also so happy to be the center of attention, from every one that was there even the volunteers. Every one of the girls went home with a blue ribbon, some prizes were "best person to brush a goat" and "the best person to hold a chicken". Troop 1045 and the Edwards Foundation want to thank all of the volunteers that came to help and keep every one safe. Every one that was here had a great time, and thank you to girl scout troop 1045.

Miranda and Rachel are Executive Intern Students with Cherry Creek schools. They're seniors practicing in their fields of interest for half of their senior year. Rachel wants to be a teacher and Miranda wants to be a Nurse and work with horses. They combined their final project into a field trip for students with special needs. The first animal to greet the students was Molly, a Zebu who loves visitors.

Parker Field House Day Camp

Edwards Animals had visitors from the Parker Field House Day Camp. Fast Eddie the Nubian goat was the first to greet the visitors and see if they brought him any food. After meeting the animals and brushing them the crew sat down for a while to visit with Aspen the American Eskimo and Coq Au Vin the banty rooster. Even though we are in the month of May and ready for sun and shorts, there was a cold wind blowing and Coco loved the warmth of laps.

Bridget and Steve met a sweet Nubian girl by the name of Pancake. When Pancake did some damage at her residence she was slated to be sold to slaughter. These two friends decided to band together to save this sweet goat. They transported her for many miles and finally ended up at The Edwards Foundation where they were warmly welcomed on a cold afternoon. They bought Pancake a pretty pink collar and made a generous donation.

Pancake got a royal salute and a "comparison of horns" greeting from Whiskers the ruling Pygmy goat and Molly her lady in waiting Zebu.

Pancake became good friends with Lamborgini the horned sheep.

Her favorite food is the bloat block with molasses and minerals.

She started and finished her first meal with this block--a dessert that she shared with Tom Turkey. Come visit her. She loves people and has made many friends so far. She says "Thank You".... to Bridget and Steven.

Natural Balance trim for Hannah and Sugar

Jason is a farrier who works with Andrea and Larry to trim their mini that had been foundered. They adopted him and with the help of Jason got him "balanced" with healthy feet again. They are interested in giving a forever home to Hannah and Sugar.

Mudjacking solves driveway sinking

Brien and his crew came out to raise our driveway slabs before we sank into the dark underground.
First holes were drilled into the slabs.

Then a tube of mud was forced into the holes raising the slabs.

The mixture had to be just right and fed into the hose.

Hose had to be held down to get right pressure.

Center cracks had to be supported from the underside.

Extra mud was recycled. Much the same skill as cleaning stalls. Tried to get the crew to stay to help with that but they had to hurry away. Thanks to them, our driveway is level again.

We can always use help with stall cleaning.

Fast Eddie & A Lamborghini - Not Your Usual Hot Rods

When their owner could no longer care for them, one year old Merino Sheep "Lamborghini" and one year old Nubian Goat "Fast Eddie" were brought to our foundation and are now living peacefully with all the other animals. Because they were raised together, Lamborghini and Fast Eddie are very bonded and are seldom more than 10 feet apart from each other at any given time. They are both gentle and affectionate, and responsible for many smiles from our volunteers.

Who knew a Lamborghini could be so precious. Here is our new boy as a baby.

Fast Eddie likes life in the fast lane with his best buddy Lamborghini. We welcomed these two guys last Sunday and they are just zooming around the pasture.

These cub scouts and their families came out to visit and how the wind did BLOW.

After grooming animals, the leaders asked each cub to tell facts about the animals that they had worked with.

Then the cubs led the animals in a pattern course.

Each scout earned a blue ribbon for their accomplishments as well as a scout badge for helping to clean up trash.

Big Hearts describe Lisa, Bailey, and Dillon. That is the family that adopted the weak foal Tyson from the Edwards foundation. Then he got better and had to have more surgery. Now he is A OK thanks to this family and especially his special owner Bailey. This family also fosters dogs and cats for the Denver Dumb Friends. Their latest batch was returned this weekends for an adoption telethon. Well, since Ryann and I were reading Green eggs and Ham, watching the telethon, and saw this pup called Sam we know it was karma. When we found out that Lisa, Bailey and Dillon were the foster family we knew it was meant to be. That is a rainbow sunbeam on Sam's back paw. He is blessed!

Sam I Am is smart, playful, friendly, good company, house broken, and full of reciprocated love.

At night he sleeps with his twin reflection or on the big bed. His choice. Only sad news is that as of this morning his brother and sister were still available for adoption. Ant takers???

Dog room make over

Thanks to carpet donations from carpet store and the hard work of Kim and Taylor the dog room got a wonderful make over. It took hours to scrub and clean. They said goodbye to all the mouse treasures and imported a new live trap mouse catcher from the barn. We all hope the mice will move into this mouse habitat for transport to the barn area. Meanwhile Toby, Reggie and Aspen are in seventh heaven in their new and very clean "village homes"! They love their new carpeting and are glad it was installed to keep them cozy for our next round of frigid temperatures. Thank you Kim, Taylor and Carpet Mill.

Sandy and Dusty find a Forever home

Sandy and Dusty are welcomed to their new home by Flag. Flag lost her best sheep friend and was very sad. Kevin and Reggie were looking for two gentle female pygmy Nubians for companions to Flag. They are getting along famously. "We want to thank you ...for the two lovingly marvelous goats! Our goat Flag has been very sad since our sheep of fourteen years passed away last week. Today our little Flag has been leaping, frolicking, and gently knocking horn nubs with the two new kids. She has been a perfect and welcoming host. We are happy too! We love goats. Sandy and Dusty are exceptionally nice!" -- Kevin, Henry and Reggie. Sandy and Dusty are so nice because they were rescued as babies from a slaughter truck by a lady named Joan, who, I understand, has been invited for a visit to play with them in their new home.

6 degrees of separation----Burr!

January and the temperature has taken a dive!!! Today the high is 6 degrees and everything is more difficult. The outdoor waterer froze and we had to carry hot water for a couple days. Then Brenda came by with two electric water buckets and a heated water element. What a help and what a warm heart. All the animals are doing well. We put all the goats in the aisleway at night. The burros and the llamas have nice warm coats and spend the night in the shelter of the barn porch.

Our biggest worry in this cold is the electrical fuse box. We have a heat lamp in the stall for the Zebus. We have a heater for the water bowl in the hen house. Each stall has a heated electric waterer. The outside water tank is also heated as is the aisleway water bucket. We added a heat lamp to Honey's stall. She had a severe colic over the Christmas break AND SURVIVED!!!! due to the expert care of two of the best vets in the state and possibly the world---Dr. Lee Mueller and Dr. Dale Rice. Anyway, to keep her healthy, we added a heated water bucket and the heat lamp to her stall. The fuses held and the electric company is grinning. Zebu gets a trim

This is Al Agnew, the awesome, certified, farrier giving a manicure to Chuck, the Zebu. Chuck spends the summer at Terolyn Farm where his hooves grow long from walking in the soft soil. When he and Molly come back to spend the winter months here, standing under a heat lamp we give them a spa treatment.

Al used a saws all as we would use a manicure file. We looked a long time to find soneone with the expertise and gentleness to be able to work with Chuck.

Chuck was very cooperative but opted out of the french nail polish!!!

We thank Al Agnew for this gentle beauty treatment.

Moving manure!

We could probably be seen from outer space with our design of manure in the field. Thanks to the able help of Adam, the brew master, we were able to work 8 hours and spread most of the summers supply of manure. As you can see, we left some of the precious stuff in a pile so anyone in need of manure for their gardens will be able to help themselves.

Buddy gets a Forever home!

Buddy came to us from Wendy in Cedaredge. Carrie and Deanne came to the Edwards Foundation looking for a pygmy goat to keep their 5 year old female goat company. Her companion goat had died last week and since goats are herd animals they need a friend to stay happy. Buddy will have lots of friends at his new home. He will be joining a pair of alpacas and two horses. He is glad to be getting a forever home before the weather gets too cold.

This is Juliana. She is an executive intern from Eaglecrest High School. That means that she works in a real job for 1/2 a school year and earns credits and work experience towards her graduation. Healing touch

This is Karen. She has been working with our old Dalmatian, Reggie. Reggie has suffered a spinal injury that has caused a disconnect between his brain and his legs. He can walk but does not have a sense of where his back legs are. Karen has been doing some healing therapy with Reggie. He is not in pain. Volunteers have donated carpet remnants so he has better footing on the wood floors.

Tina Turkey gets her wish

You may remember that when the Terri O'Hara animal wize communicators were here they got a request from Tina Turkey for water to play in and a boy (turkey).

Her request was granted. Meet Tom Turkey.

He is red, white and blue--all American and glad to be here!!!!

We just received 6 darling Nigerian pygmy goats from the Weir Ranch in Cedaredge.

Two little goats have found forever homes already.

All the animals really love the used Halloween pumpkins. Come visit and bring your camera.
