Until We Meet Again

We were hit with sadness last week as one of dear volunteers left this world to join his galaxy far, far away. Anybody who knew him, knew love.

Thomas truly touched the hearts of all of us around the foundation. Thomas' first day with us, we weren't sure he would come back as our animals would not leave him alone. To say he was uncomfortable is an understatement. Despite this, he continued to show up every week eager to work and take care of everything around the farm from shoveling manure to moving heavy loads of wet hay in the hot sun for hours rocking a sleeveless shirt showing off his muscles. Little by little, his comfort level grew to such a degree that we are honored to have witnessed a complete turn around from that first day.

Thomas's last day with us was Friday May 7, which was our biggest blessing from him. Our hearts melted as we watched Elizabeth the llama sneak up on him, as she did every day. He turned his cheek to her, leaned in, and she kissed him!!!

The loss of such a special young man is already being felt here. We will keep his memory alive by continuing to tell his story of perseverance through adversity and fear.

"May the force be with you," Tom.

Walking the animals

We can't forget to take them on their walk. We have volunteers to hold our llamas and horses while the goats run along with us.

Dealer's healing

After a battle with cancer, Dealer's eye is healing well. He is feeling right at home with                                                                                 goats, horses, and chickens.

Guardian Mask Company Donation!

We so appreciate the generous donation from the Guardian Mask Company, located in Burnet, Texas. Their website is guardianmask.com. You have probably followed the story that on February 3rd, 2021, Dealer (our 20 year old Missouri Fox Trotter) was taken to Colorado State University. There, it was expected he would do a 3 day surgery to remove eye tumors. It ended up being a 6 week ordeal with the end result that one eye needed to be removed. We are so very grateful to the Guardian Mask Company for donating a mask to protect his good eye from the UV rays in our high Colorado atmosphere!

Goodbye to Toby

This is an update on our pony Toby, who was placed with Teri Allen, due to his need for specialized care:

Today we said goodbye to a very special little pony. Toby arrived at our rescue just over a year ago with chronic laminitis. With the help of our knowledgeable and experienced vets and farriers, we were able to keep him happy, healthy and comfortable until recently. We finally made the difficult decision to do the right thing for Toby. With the help of our vet, we humanely euthanized him this afternoon. He spent the day being spoiled with lots of treats and TLC. When it was time, he was surrounded by people who loved him and by his little buddy, Stormy. We know he's finally kicking up his heels, with no more pain, on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Thank you Terolyn for everything you did to keep this very special pony happy!

Alfalfa was adopted by Janelle!

Alfalfa has a new mama and family. Janelle and family can't take him home yet, so they are boarding him here for now. They also adopted a rooster and renamed him Gumdrop. They visit Alfalfa and the other animals and provide lots of love and care. Thanks Janelle and congratulations on your new family members! Pictures to follow when the weather improves!

Duck eggs

Have you ever seen a natural egg with a black shell? Some of our ducks are Cayuga (picture of Envy). They lay black eggs at the start of the season. The egg shells get lighter as the season progresses. Who knew?
